In a previous post, I talked about Uttara Bhadrapada. Purva Bhadrapada is similar. However, Purva Bhadrapada is more intense.

Purva Bhadrapada is found from 20 degrees of Aquarius to 3 degrees 20 minutes of Pisces.

It is known as the Scorching Pair. This Nakshatra has a purifying quality of it. Here, we come to realize that the material world is not all that it’s promised to be. However, unlike the calming qualities of Uttara Bhadrapada, Purva Bhadrapada has a scorching quality to it. It wants to burn the impurities of Maya (illusion of the material world). So, instead of isolation, these individuals might choose to rebel against society. This is especially true for the Aquarius portion of this Nakshatra. The name also implies that there is the same dual personality that is found in Uttara Bhadrapada. In Uttara Bhadrapada, we saw the symbolism of twins. Here we see a man with two faces. They can be very mysterious and might possess hidden talents. Hidden anger, jealousy, and other fiery emotions can also become a problem at times.

Purva Bhadrapada also means the "Former Lucky Feet", whereas Uttara Bhadrapada was the "Later Lucky Feet". So, this is also a lucky Nakshatra that can receive great blessings in life.

A symbol of Purva Bhadrapada is the Front Two Legs of a Funeral Cot. Once again, we get this connection to death and beyond. Those born under this Nakshatra are opposed to the mundane. They might have an interest in death, research, mystical knowledge, and other eccentric/taboo subjects. These are philosophical and wise individuals. Purva Bhadrapada individuals might even find interest in political matters or other worldly issues. Making excellent social activists and philanthropists. Helping and generosity are in their nature. And they tend to receive luck through their good deeds.

Another symbol of Purva Bhadrapada is a sword. They can see through the illusion. Yet, are not completely escaping from it. Instead, they are standing against it. These are peace-loving humanitarians that fight for what is right. They are protectors of the "underdog" and the less fortunate. These are social justice warriors and true humanitarians. They make excellent leaders and are very determined. It is easy to feel their empathy and compassion through their selfless acts. They are also very intuitive and tend to come up with accurate predictions and guesses about people and situations.

Purva Bhadrapada’s deity is Aja Ekapada. Aja Ekapada is another form of Shiva, known as the "One-Footed Unborn One". There is said to be a relationship between Aja Ekapada and Ahir Budhnyana. They are both seen as serpents in some texts and are related to ritual and sacrifice. Except, Ahir Budhnyana is seen as the dragon or serpent at the altar or at the greatest depths. Where Aja Ekapada is seen as a fire-breathing serpent. There are other forms of this deity as well. Some see Aja Ekapada in the form of a unicorn and some in the form of a monstrous goat. Either way, Aja Ekapada is the deity of magic and mystical sciences. This can draw these people towards esoteric practices and studying hidden knowledge. However, they have to be careful of being drawn into black magic.

The ability to be a great leader and to make a difference in humanity is strong in this Nakshatra. As long as these individuals choose the correct path. Their lower nature can be very destructive and full of suffering. Jupiter and Saturn are the planets that help with this. Rahu’s influence is like a wild card. It can lead these individuals to work hard and achieve their goals. Or it can lead to not hesitating to take the wrong path in life. Looking at the condition of these planets is important to understand how they will influence behavior.
